What You Need to Know Before Your Appointment

At Owensboro Medical Practice Laboratory, we understand that our services are often the foundation of the physician’s diagnosis and treatment. It is essential to follow certain instructions for accuracy of test results. At OMP lab your satisfaction is our priority and we strive to do our best to attend to your needs. Following are some instructions to make sure that your visit to OMP lab is a smooth experience.

We need to have a lab order signed by the ordering physician. We ask that the lab order include a diagnosis code (CPT code). Your physician may pre-fax a lab order. We enter these orders in the computer in our records until you arrive.

You may be asked to verify your insurance at your visit.

Certain lab tests are may need to be performed at a specific time of the day. Please follow the instructions given by your provider to help us get you proper results.

Certain lab tests require patients to be fasting 8-12 hours prior to testing. You are not to eat or drink anything (except water). Please verify with your provider if fasting is required for the test.

Medicare patients may be asked to sign a waiver called ABN (Advanced beneficiary notice of non-coverage) if the diagnosis provided by your provider does not cover the tests being ordered. By signing ABN you accept the financial responsibility.

At OMP laboratory we offer certain tests that are timed tests (like Glucose Tolerance Testing or Insulin Testing). These tests have to be carried out requiring multiple blood draws at specific time intervals. We ask to follow these instructions carefully. We request that you arrive by 7.30- 8.00 am. These tests are performed from Monday-Friday only. Please understand that you will be required to be fasting. Once the tests start, you may not leave the premises. Plan to be here for 2.5- 3 hours.

We attend to our patients in the order they arrive. At times, a patient may be having a timed test and it may be required to move them in front of you. Please co-operate with us.

Certain tests are referred from our laboratory to hospital or LabCorp. This will require additional turnaround time. Hospital or LabCorp will bill you for the testing.

Your lab results will be sent to your ordering provider.

Owensboro Medical Practice Laboratory is CLIA certified laboratory where we provide a comprehensive range of lab tests and we provide rapid turnaround for all in house testing! We understand that our services are often the foundation of the physician’s diagnosis and treatment.

Following are some information and recommendations that you may find helpful when ordering tests for your patients.

When writing a lab order, please use appropriate CPT codes. Also please make sure to sign the lab order. You may give the patient a paper copy of the lab order or you may pre-fax the lab order to us at (270) 685-8226 We will save the order in our medical records prior to patient’s arrival.

Please make sure to have patient’s name, address, Date of Birth, Social Security Number and phone number on the order form along with current copy of insurance card when faxing the order form to our office.

We offer a wide range of tests in house. We offer rapid turnaround for all in house testing.

Some tests are required to be sent to OHRH hospital laboratory or Lab Corp. These require additional turnaround time. Please advise your patients that they will be billed by hospital or LabCorp.
